Is it worth the scoop? I can't stop talking about their flavors

I heard about Red Rover Creamery via a Seacoast Online article and could barely contain my excitement for a NEW ice cream place to try. The more I read, the more I drooled. Artisanal, seasonal flavors in my hometown? COULD NOT WAIT to try it! I’ve been there several times since they opened, but that was back when The Saucy Scoop was merely a glimmer in my mind’s eye so of course we had to go again. This time on official SS business, and remembering to take photos and log the experience along the way.

By having a small menu, owners Sarah and Eric can really focus on packing each flavor with that next level punch to earn the title “artisanal”. With a degree from the Culinary Institute of America in NY and an impressive background as a chef all over the US, Sarah lets her creativity run wild with her flavors. In addition to ice cream, she bakes cookies for ice cream sandwiches as well as pies and specialty desserts for the holidays.

Remember when I told you I like my chocolate ice cream dark and dialed to 11? Ben and Jerry’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie is usually my marker for chocolatiness. I’d put it at a 9 on the dark chocolate scale. Red Rover’s chocolate ice cream demolished all the other chocolate ice creams I’ve ever had. Chocolate Salted Caramel Swirl, dark chocolate level: 11.The salt, chocolate, caramel pirouetting gracefully across my tongue in perfect balance. I can’t stop talking about how delicious this was. Do you think I’m exaggerating? Exhibit A: photographic evidence of how blown away I was by this flavor:

Due to COVID precautions, they are currently selling pre-packaged scoops. The sizes come in walkaround, half pint, pint, and quart. The walkaround size is an average scoop, but I wanted to taste 2 different flavors so I ordered a half pint. Eric, one of the owners who was working when we stopped by, graciously sold me 2 different flavors for the cost of a half pint. The second flavor I tried was their Mocha Almond Fudge. It had a super strong coffee flavor, which D said was like eating a Mocha coffee. One of those rich, full bodied dark mochas made in a local coffee shop. I’m weird and love coffee ice cream, but do not love to drink coffee. Well that’s not the only thing that makes me weird, but we don’t have all day… So for all you mocha coffee lovers out there, you need to try this flavor! For weirdos like me who will only drink coffee if it tastes like you’ve spilled a dash into my bowl of ice cream, this may be too strong for you.

UPDATE March 26th 2021: During the off season they offer ice cream pop up with seasonal flavors and desserts. They created a Matzoh Crunch ice cream for Passover that was chocolate caramel with big chunks of matzoh crunch. I grew up Jewish and the main thing I looked forward to on Passover was my mother’s Matzoh “crack” which is caramel and chocolate covered matzoh, so of course I had to try this flavor. They made their Matzoh Crunch with chocolate, caramel, and almonds on top. *mind explosion emoji* I don’t know how they managed to keep the matzoh crunch still crunchy, but the texture of this ice cream was INSANE. Creamy, crunchy, a little salty and chocolatey. I’m salivating just remembering the taste.
